Gail Bird, an internationally recognized punchneedle embroidery specialist from Sacramento, California, is the curator for the museum’s current exhibit. She brings 35 years of devoted expertise and collecting of magnificent examples made by artists nationwide such as Linda Nakashima, Judith Montano, and Missy Stevens. Quilts, wearable art, jewelry, wallhangings, and framed art embellished with punchneedle embroidery will comprise the broad array of this exhibit which will be open from April 4th through July 8th. Punchneedle embroidery is the needle-art where various threads and fabrics are applied through a punchneedle to form loops which can be altered to different lengths to create different effects.
Gail Bird has generously offered to teach complimentary classes at the museum’s June 8 & 9, University Days on Beginning Punchneedle Embroidery, as well as an informative noon lecture on: Punchneedle Embroidery! History, Techniques, and Applications. Please see the article in this newsletter on Gail and the classes she will be teaching in quilt shops after the University Days.
Late afternoon, on Friday, June 8, Gail Bird will offer guided tours of the exhibition
at the Farmhouse Interim Museum. The public is invited to this Open House celebration of fine needle arts.
