Cedarburg Strawberry Festival
June 27 and 28, 2009

Strawberry Festival is always a wonderful time of year in Cedarburg. The weather is warm, the strawberries are ripe, and everyone comes out to celebrate.

During Strawberry Festival, the Wisconsin Museum of Quilts and Fiber Arts always has Documentation Days on the farm. Bring your quilts, old and new, to have their information recorded and stored in our statewide database. We'll ask you a few questions about the maker, take measurements and pictures, and sew on a label. Our trained volunteers can tell you about when your quilt was made, based on the fabrics, and we'd love to have you tell us your stories, so we can record them for history. The cost is only $5.00 per quilt, to cover expenses. Hours are 10 AM - 5 PM, both days.

Every year, the museum sponsors a Strawberry Challenge. Participants purchase a kit of fabrics and batting, and use it to make a one-of-a-kind quilt. Quilts are displayed at the farm during Strawberry Festival, and viewers vote on the best one. You can also pick up your challenge kit for next year—it's discounted during the festival.

The museum exhibit and shop will be open during the Festival. Come and see the wonderful quilts by internationally known teachers Marti and Stacy Michel, and spend a little time browsing in the gift shop. We have wonderful merchandise on consignment from local artists, as well as books, yarn, and fabric. You can also purchase the latest edition of our book, Wisconsin Quilts: History in the Stitches.

This year, members of the online sewing group Treadleon (http://www.treadleon.net) will be with us in the barn, demonstrating sewing on treadle and hand crank sewing machines. If you need hints about how to use your old antique machine, these are the people to ask. Test drive a machine yourself. Children are welcome to try, too, with our adult supervision.

Downtown, the museum will have a booth on Washington Avenue, near the Woolen Mill, where kids can make fun things. We always want to encourage the next generation of fiber artists.

Join us for a fun weekend!

If you have questions about the events, please email Sylvia Adair, at piecethepast@att.net, or call the museum at (262)546-0300.
