New Date! April 23, 2021

Now a Virtual Zoom Lecture (link will be provided via email)

12:00 to 1:00pm

Pre-Columbian = Before the 1530s in Peru

Description:

How can we learn anything about old, old fabrics (between 500-1,000 years old) made by people long dead? Particularly when those long-dead people left no written records?

The study becomes even trickier because we seldom know where these textiles were found, much less who made them or when. Diane will tell you about the centuries-old “profession” of grave robbing families in Peru and how it affects our research.

To determine how old these pieces are or who may have made them requires detective work. Yes, playing “Sherlock Holmes” with ancient fragments! Diane will share some of her methods for “untangling” the past and “weaving” the story about these beautiful hand-woven textiles.

Let the mystery “unraveling” begin!

Special note: Attendees will have a unique opportunity to see the WMQFA’s special collection of Pre-Columbian Peruvian woven textiles. These fabrics are thought to be at least 1,000 years old!
