Cedarburg, Wis.  – On Wisconsin Fiber Arts Biennial (November 21, 2019 through February 2, 2020) at the Wisconsin Museum of Quilts & Fiber Arts (WMQFA) presents the museum’s fourth fiber arts biennial. Open to all artists who call Wisconsin “home,” this call-for-entries exhibition, the fourth in the museum’s history, invited artists to submit an original two- or three-dimensional fiber-based work created in the last three years. Taken together, these works speak to the breadth and quality of fiber arts being created by Wisconsin artists today.

Quilting, felting, embroidery, beading, and rug hooking are just a few of the processes employed by the over one-hundred artists in the exhibition. For many of these artists, making is a deeply rooted daily practice—one that they have spent many years, and sometimes a lifetime, engrossed in and honing. Thus, the works on view speak to the expansive capacity of fiber art to hold memories, convey emotions, express identities, explore ideas, and tell stories.

On Wisconsin Fiber Arts Biennial will be on view at WMQFA from November 21, 2019 through February 2, 2020. WMQFA will host a gallery night on Saturday, December 7, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A free public Family Fun Day will also take place at WMQFA on December 7, from noon to 4 p.m.

About the Wisconsin Museum of Quilts & Fiber Arts

The Wisconsin Museum of Quilts & Fiber Arts (WMQFA), located just east of historic downtown Cedarburg, Wisconsin, is dedicated to creating, preserving and displaying cultural treasures and educating the public about the artistic, cultural, historic and social importance of quilts and fiber arts. A primary mission is to teach people of all ages and abilities the time-honored traditions of fiber arts such as quilting, weaving, embroidery and knitting. Our 1850s farmstead setting has allowed us to combine preservation of craft with preservation of historical agriculture buildings, offering a unique setting for enjoying an afternoon, taking a class, attending a lecture, or playing in a farm setting. The WMQFA is a 501(c)3 non-profit. For more information go to www.wiquiltmuseum.com.
