Class Description:
Take a trip to the Scottish Highlands with Justine Heinrichs! The workshop is a fun exploration of painting with wool using wet felting, needle felting, merino wool and gorgeous locks! Participants will create a 11” x 14” portrait of a Highland Cow scene suitable for hanging. Students will learn: How to lay out fibers for wet felting. How to wet felt wool, silk and locks. How to use felting needles. How to use a template for design inspiration. How to blend colors by hand or using hand carders. How to use different values of color to express light and reflection.
SUPPLY LIST:
2 absorbent bath towels and change of clothes. You will get wet at the end of the first day.
Teacher Biography:
Justine Heinrichs is a musician, teacher and fiber artist. She discovered needle felting in 2017 and has never looked back. She says, "Felting is such a joy. I love the organic, yet magical, nature of wool and the endless ways it can be manipulated. You can create anything from lifelike figures to fantasy creatures. The sky's the limit. I have been obsessed with exploring the possibilities of felting and sharing the joy of creating with others. I love sharing my passion in workshops where I can empower others to enjoy felting, too.” Justine was among the first class of Sarafina Certified Instructors for teaching felting. She uses her 34 years of public school teaching experience to lead workshops that offer all participants the opportunity to succeed in this most forgiving craft. She has taught workshops at Wisconsin Sheep and Wool. Her “Harris Hawk” won Best in Show in 2019. She is a member of the Cedarburg Artists Guild.
